After doing Apenheul we got the train back, stopping off for a detour on the way, where we got off at Amsterdam Central in order to make a quick bonus trip. The Amsterdam Dungeon closed late afternoon, but Madame Tussauds stays open to late in the evening so we were able to do that.

The Madame Tussauds in Amsterdam isn't as large as the one in London, but it costs a lot less to get in to, so I think it is slightly better value overall. Most of the exhibits have an English language section on them, so apart from a few Dutch celebrities we didn't recognise visiting it isn't a problem for English speaking foreigners.

This is a building known as the Nemo Museum, taken from the train in to Amsterdam.
Speaking of trains I've got to mention the toilets. I was surprised the first time I used one when instead of the mess being flushed away, a trap door and it drops down on to the track. For this reason your not meant to use the toilet in stations. I'm a bit worried about what happens if someone flushes a poo away as the trains going over a level crossing.

I can't think of a caption for this photo that's clean enough.

This is one of the large buildings on the National Monument Square where Madame Tussauds is located.

That pillar there is the National Monument. Jokes about it's shape write themselves, so I'll let you decide which one you'll go with.

The sign over the entrance over Madame Tussauds.

On entering Madame Tussauds this model greets you and tells you a bit about Dutch history. He's made up of Windmills, Tulips and is smoking something. That's all Dutch stereotypes accounted for.

After the introduction you learn a bit more about Dutch History in a recreation of an old part of Amsterdam.

The history section finishes with this large spectacular Diorama of Amsterdam.

After the history section is a Pirates of the Caribbean walkthrough horror section. I found this a little disappointing if I'm honest. It was basically a short walkthrough horror ride with a minimum of live actors, and a pirate theme. The Pirates of the Caribbean element just seems there to attract extra people, it could just as easily be called Pirates of Amsterdam.
Another disappointment was in a Pirates of the Caribbean section in a waxworks, I was expecting some waxworks of characters from Pirates of the Caribbean. Johnny Depp / Jack Sparrow appears as the waxwork at the beginning as the model you have your photo taken with, apart from that there weren't any models of any characters from the film.
