After seeing the Tour De France I got the train to a suburb in north London where the Carters steam fair was operating for the weekend. You can find there website at http://www.carterssteamfair.co.uk/. This is a special travelling fair company that specialises in vintage funfair rides. All the rides are from pre 1970, and the Carousel dates back from over 100 years. If you have an interest in historic rides it's definitely worth keeping an eye out for this one visiting your local area. Even if your not that interested in history it's still worth looking out for as it's one of the better mid sized funfairs I've been to, and it has some unique rides you won't get to try in many other places.

This is one of the main areas of the funfair, with the vintage carousel in the foreground and the twin set of steam yachts in the background.

Another photo of the exquisitely decorated carousel.

A close up of some of the Carousels great art work, at the top you can see various jungle themes  depicted. If you look carefully at the roof you can see panels with portraits of various kings and queens of England hanging down.

The chair o plane ride at the fair, which has a classic RAF airplane theme, with different scenes depicted on the rides panels.

Another fairground classic at the fair is the King of Rock n Roll Dodgems, obviously with a 50's Rock n Roll theme, complete with appropriate music.

Every car has the name of a different rock n roll star on it. It's your perfect chance to take out your frustrations on Cliff Richard for Millennium prayer.

There's two versions of the classic swing boats ride, here you can see the adult version, the smaller child version is just out of shot.

This is a twin set of  steam yachts. I was expecting it to be similar to a more modern pirate ship, but they pack a lot more of a punch, providing a huge amount of airtime lifting you out of your seat. They warn you to hold on on the ride, and you get the feeling that if you let go you would be lifted right out of your seat.

The bottom of the yachts are decorated with
a Union Jack and the Stars and Stripes.

Some more examples of the exquisite art work, here
found on the side of the steam yachts.

Some examples of some of the classic style amusement games. This includes one game where you shoot targets with an airgun. I'm surprised health and safety still allow that one.
