Waltzers From Vienna
|
|
|
|
This is quite an elaborate venture river style
kiddie ride.
|
|
This is another one of the new rides for 2008, a
big fairground Rotor that's been decorated with a
Chinese theme.
|
|
This is one of the parks main attractions, a
variant on the Booster ride called the Turbo
Boost.
|
|
The thrill rides at Prater, and at European
funfairs in general are a lot more intense than you find
in the U.K. On this one it starts to hurt you feet as
they swell up due to the
G-Force.
|
|
There are a couple of things to spot in this
photo. One is the nice marketing ploy on the front leg
on the right, that shows you how fast the ride is going.
The second is the example of the more liberal health and
safety rules at European funfairs. In the U.K. everyone
has to be well away from the ride before it starts
going. Here you can see the operator just sitting on the
fence as the pod goes past at 76kph.
|
|
This is another example of an intense European
ride. I've been on rides of a similar style in the U.K.
but this one is a lot more intense than any version I've
ridden here. There's also another example of the
more liberal health and safety laws. That man by the
fence is using an angle grinder, with sparks and
everything. I thought this meant the ride wouldn't be
open, but when the operator saw me looking at it he
waved me over and let me go on it while the work was
still being done on the fence.
|
|
Another great thing about the park was the lack
of waiting around on the rides. At most U.K. fairs if
your only the only one or two people on a big thrill
ride you usually end up waiting around for 5 minutes as
the operator tries to get more riders. Here it doesn't
matter if your a small group, you pay your money they
load you on and start the ride for you without any
waiting about.

This is Volare. It's designed to be a low cost
flying style roller coaster in a compact space.
Unfortunately the flying pods used are very
uncomfortable ruining any fun or thrills you could get
from the ride layout.
|
|
To save space Volare has this unusual Spiral hill
lift, with that rotating frame in the centre which the
pods attach to be taken up the spiral
lift.
|
|
This is another one of the new rides for this
year which I didn't get to try due to limited funds.
Well I've already done several Top Spins
before.
