There's a roundabout at Hollycombe called Mr Dingles Steam circus which was
built in the 1870's, making it the oldest mechanical funfair ride in the
world. This is a slightly more modern version, being built around 1912. Not
a bad one either, it's not an overly spectacular or grand model, but it's of
a good standard and all the ride is in well kept condition.
It's not until you come close up and are actually riding it that you get a
true appreciation of this ride. The presence of a working steam engine, and
an authentic fairground organ playing tunes using an old fashioned paper
roll as a guide recreates a nostalgic atmosphere. A great little fun ride
that compliments the atmosphere of the park wonderfully. |
