Technically this isn't a roundabout, as the animals aren't stationary, they move up and down. This makes it either merry go round which has lots of different animals, or in this case it's predominantly horses, so it's a Carousel.

There's a roundabout at Hollycombe called Mr Dingles Steam circus which was built in the 1870's, making it the oldest mechanical funfair ride in the world. This is a slightly more modern version, being built around 1912. Not a bad one either, it's not an overly spectacular or grand model, but it's of a good standard and all the ride is in well kept condition.

It's not until you come close up and are actually riding it that you get a true appreciation of this ride. The presence of a working steam engine, and an authentic fairground organ playing tunes using an old fashioned paper roll as a guide recreates a nostalgic atmosphere. A great little fun ride that compliments the atmosphere of the park wonderfully.
