Wicksteed Railway

When we went the park map had a little space in it that said it would contain a surprise new ride for this year. We didn't go to Wicksteed to just try the new ride, so I wasn't disappointed, but if I'd gone just to try the surprise new ride and discovered this, I would have been.

It's a chair swing that does have a classic fairground feel in the design and decoration of it, although the decoration does a feel a little bland and basic. There's no murals on any part of the ride  so most of it is done in just two colours.

It's a basic set in the sense that the upper part of the ride doesn't rise up or tilt, it just spins, causing the seats to spin out. It's not until you ride a basic set like this that you realise the difference the tilting makes. Without it the ride feels a lot more predictable and secure, more like a playground ride, lacking the same level of thrills and grandeur as more advanced chair swings. It's still a nice ride, that fits Wicksteed's family market quite nicely, but it's not a stand out one.
