Dodgems must be one of the all time favourites at funfairs and amusement parks. In fact it's a struggle to think of one I've been to that didn't have a set. Of course Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach has a set, and it's a set better than most.

For a start it's not a traditional fairground style set, it's located in a large building opposite the Fun House and Ghost Train. The walls are all brick, and the power grid for the dodgems is attached to the ceiling. Sadly though the rest of the theming feels like a missed opportunity. I like the use of Homer and the rest of the Simpsons in the signage, but the signs and dodgem cars feel like standard fairground fare. It's not bad looking, but I feel with some themed cars and good decoration this set could be made to really stand out from the crowd.

Luckily this set stands out in other ways. It has a much larger floor space than you'd normally find on a Dodgem ride. This allows you to gather more speed, and make larger runs before crashing, whether intentionally or not. I didn't think it was possible to roll a dodgems car, after riding this though I'm not so  sure. Dodgems are usually on my to do list when I visit an amusement park, and this set is higher up the list than most other sets.
